How it works

  1. 01

    What it’s about

People who don’t know each other yet go out for a drink together. No group chat, no planning: time and place are set, you just show up.

  2. 02

    One date for the world

Every Thursday at 7 pm, in local time. Whether Lisbon, Lagos or Osaka: the evening travels once around the globe.

  3. 03

    Mixed, Girls only, Guys only

Every place has three kinds of groups each Thursday (Mixed for everyone, Girls only for women, Guys only for men), each in three age groups: 18–29, 30–44 and 45+. Every group has its own meeting point. Your age group is preselected, but you can pick another one.

  4. 04

    Max. 12 per meetup

So it stays a group and doesn’t turn into a street party. When a meetup is full, another one opens automatically at a different spot in the same town. If a seat frees up before, you move up.

  5. 05

    The meeting point

An algorithm picks an easy-to-find public spot from OpenStreetMap data, at most 300 m from the centre: squares and pedestrian zones first, otherwise in front of a pub, museum, station or town hall. You always meet outside. Every meetup gets its own spot, at least 150 m from the others. If there is no suitable spot in the centre, there are no meetups there.

  6. 06

Sign up first, then the details

Before that you only see a 300 m circle. The exact meeting point and the bars around the corner are shown to everyone who’s in.

  7. 07

    If it fits: invitation

You sign up once for the Thursday series and pick from how many yeses you’re in (3 to 12). Every Tuesday at 7 pm we look for a group in which everyone’s minimum is met. Everyone who fits gets an invitation. You can leave any time in your profile.

  8. 08

    Say yes

Confirm or decline with one click by Wednesday 7 pm. If this week doesn’t suit you, just decline; the series goes on. If a fitting group comes together among the yeses, it happens and everyone gets the meeting point and a calendar entry. If you say yes, you show up.

  9. 09

    QR handshake

On Thursday your meetup page shows a personal QR code. Scan each other: that’s your hello, and it confirms both of you as “was there”.

  10. 10

    Reliability

Whoever was there gets confirmed by the group, via QR handshake or with a tick afterwards. That counts towards your reliability, which only you can see. Nobody can rate others badly.

  11. 11

    Small beats big

Every place page shows how many are in nearby. If four people are already waiting in the next village, the short trip is worth it.

  12. 12

    And then?

That’s up to you. At 19:15 you head off together; the confirmation mail suggests a nearby bar, but you can just as well decide on the spot. Beer, wine, soda, doesn’t matter.

  13. 13

    Safety

Meeting points are always public. We don’t verify anyone: names, age and gender are self-reported, including for Girls only and Guys only. Keep an eye on your drink, don’t go somewhere else alone with people you just met, and if something feels off, just leave. Report serious incidents to us at info@mapshot.io, and in an emergency call the police.
